Construction Services have now completed the work at Sherburn Hill Community Hub. Work packages ensured the building would have a dual-use and welcomes Ethicare (Durham) Limited, which provides a “person-centred” service that promotes community inclusion and independent living skills for those with learning difficulties and a community centre team who will operate from this new community hub for the local people with the ability to host multiple events in a new multi-functional environment.
Phase one consisted of work to accommodate the requirements of Ethicare and internally refurbish and re-model old classrooms to accommodate the operational requirements of a special needs facility.
Phase two consisted of work to the main community hub. This work included internal refurbishment and re-model old classrooms to suit the needs and change of use of the building. Major work comprised structural repairs to numerous floor areas, removal of internal walls, the creation of a changing places facility, the installation of a platform lift into the main hall from the reception area, level access, and controls to the main door.
Work was delayed due to the impact of Covid-19 and resumed in early May 2020 when the Construction team could return to the site safely. The building was successfully handed over to the client in September 2020.
