Consett Empire Theatre is undergoing refurbishment works, including roofing and gutter repairs to the main hall roof, new fire alarms and electrical works.
The works are currently in their early stages. The bird-cage scaffolding is in place to the main hall and auditorium to allow a new metal stud and 9mm plasterboard ceiling to be installed. The external scaffold will facilitate the roof repairs and new guttering, along with extensive rendering repairs to the front elevation.
The seating to the main hall has been removed for cleaning and the café roof and internals are being refurbished, along with the stage and changing areas.
The main hall floor and wall coverings are to be renewed with some alterations to doorways.
The project will take approximately 24 weeks and is due to complete in November 2020.
